Hi! My name is Andrea Gerhard! I am 48 and the Director of Scholarships & Grants for The Heart of Illinois Community Foundation. I am also wife (to Clay…which is a job in itself) and mom of four (Jack – 17, HS grad 2025, Ainsley – 15, Henry – 12, Sadie – 9)
Why I HIIT the DISC
With this challenge, I am most excited to have the opportunity to use the DISC and to be able to do this with others who I respect and value. My non-scale goal is to keep a positive mindset and don’t get caught in frustration or comparison (where I’ve been in the past to the challenges that come with aging). My biggest motivation is my family, being a good example for our kids; staying strong & able (to keep managing family schedules and household). As for my biggest fear, I’ve had some physical challenges out of my control in the last year that have been frustrating to me; the mental game in this is hard and real (especially with this being a ‘public’ experience and not just a private one for me).
A little about me
In my spare time, I love to be outdoors, and love being in and by water. I enjoy walking, biking, swimming, and also music. (The challenge is “spare time” in our current stage of life.) My favorite craving is probably a small turtle sundae. On my HIIT the DISC playlist, I like all kinds of music – all across the decades, and from Country to Christian music to Rock, Pop, and what we’d likely go out and hit the dance floor with in college (which is now “house cleaning music”). There’s a place for all of it – just depends on the day. When it comes to my favorite saying or quote, I remind our kids that “we are made to do hard things” and will remind myself that. I also remember the Eleanor Roosevelt quote, “No one can make you feel inferior without your consent.” And the other I have in a frame that I was given years ago is from Aristotle, “We are what we repeatedly do. Excellence, then, is not an act, but a habit.”
