June 22, 2025 – The late Mike “Tuna” McElroy, former Mayor of Decatur, is the newest addition to the City of Decatur Hall of Fame.

The Decatur HOF is located inside the main lobby of the Decatur Civic Center on the west wall. This is the first addition to the HOF since 2021.

McElroy was a Decatur City Councilman for six years before running for mayor in 2009, where he was overwhelmingly elected and later reelected for a second mayoral term. He served as mayor for six years before passing away in 2015.

Decatur Mayor Julie Moore Wolfe attributes the start of many large projects to the City Council under McElroy’s leadership: the $94-million dredging of Lake Decatur, a massive $72-million project to fix Decatur’s aging sewers, and the new Decatur Police Department headquarters, among other accomplishments.

“I am proud to stand among Tuna’s family and friends to induct a great man to the Decatur Hall of Fame,” said Moore Wolfe. “Much of what is right in Decatur started with Tuna. Although we miss him dearly, having him on the Hall of Fame wall is a lasting tribute to his legacy.”
