Dig into gardening with University of Illinois Extension’s free workshops

June 24, 2025 – Gardening can provide a variety of benefits such as physical exercise, stress relief, and the satisfaction of growing your own food and flowers. Join the University of Illinois Extension at Crossing Healthcare’s Gardens for a monthly program featuring expert advice, hands-on demonstrations, and engaging discussions to cultivate gardening skills.

In July, the class will focus on uses and recipes for your garden harvest.

Program Schedule:

July 8: What do I do with all these Zucchini?
Get creative with your garden harvest! This session will cover recipes and uses for zucchini, okra, cucumbers, and more.

August 12: Spiders, Drought, and Weeds! Oh My!
Address common garden challenges, including pests, drought conditions, and weed management.

September 9: Let’s Put it to Bed
Learn how to prepare your garden for the end of the growing season and ensure it’s ready for next year.

October 14: How did your Garden Grow?
Share your gardening successes and challenges, and get inspired by others’ plans for the next season.

Crossing Garden Education series will be from 10 to 11 a.m. at Crossing Healthcare Garden, 320 Central Ave. in Decatur. The program is open to ages 18 and above. Kids may attend with parent/caregiver.  In the event of inclement weather, the program will move indoors.
