Decatur Public Library to host 150th Anniversary Block Party Aug 2nd

July 16, 2025 – The Decatur Public Library (DPL) will host block party celebration to celebrate its milestone 150th Anniversary on August 2nd.

The event will include live music, free children’s activities and community partners such as  Scovill’s Mobile Zoo, the Girl Scouts of Central Illinois, the Children’s Museum of Illinois, the Decatur Area Arts Council, and more. There will also be crafts, bubbles, caricatures, bounce houses, and food trucks.

The festivities will be held from 11am to 2pm outside in the library’s greenspace and parking lot. The parking garage to the south of DPL will be open and does not require permits on Saturdays. Additionally, the library building will be closed that day.

The event is free and open to the public.

Founded in 1875, the Decatur Public Library has served the Decatur community for 150 years, providing access to books, movies, music, and educational programming.
