July 30, 2025 – The Macon County Conservation District will host the 41st Annual Astronomy Jamboree. This free event will be held at Friends Creek Conservation Area on Saturday, August 9 from 8-11pm.
Participants can enjoy live music from acoustic duo Corn & Cotton from 8pm to 8:45pm, then view the wonders of the galaxy from stars to the visible planets. Weather permitting, you should be able to see Saturn, Jupiter, and closely examine the surface of Earth’s moon. Participants are welcome and encouraged to bring and set up their own telescopes and share their knowledge with others.
“With the Conservation District’s telescope, you can make out the rings of Saturn and the Red Spot on Jupiter,” says Director of Program Services, Alysia Callison. “It’s amazing to take these tiny, abstract spots of light in the sky and see them from a new perspective, and we can’t wait to show people some of the marvels of space for the 41st year in a row.”
There will be a children’s craft, giveaway prizes, and hotdogs and s’mores for roasting. The event is free for all ages. Must pre-register online by noon on August 8. Space is limited.
