September 4, 2025 – The Children’s Museum is partnering with Millikin University to bring back Chem Girls and, new this Fall, offer Chem Kid.

Chem Girls and Chem Kids are two programs designed to connect kids in grades fifth – eighth with chemistry in a fun, hands-on way. Both programs offer camps where kids will experiment with colors, dyes, and unconventional materials in the classroom and in the Millikin University Chemistry Lab.

Chem Girls, which is exclusive to girls and nonbinary individuals, will be held Saturday, October 18th at Millikin.

Chem Kids, which is inclusive of all genders, will be held Saturday, September 20th at the museum and Saturday, October 18th at Millikin.

Both camps will be focusing on colorful chemistry, including chromatography, creating rainbow water, testing natural and man made dyes, making colorful snacks, and exploring tie dye and henna.

Lunch and swag are included and camp is only $10 per session. Scholarships are available if the price is a barrier. To inquire about a scholarship, call Melanie at 217-423-5437 before registering.

The program is made possible thanks to the She Gave Women’s Giving Circle and Ameren.
