September 4, 2025 -University of Illinois Extension is now accepting registrations for the Fall Master Gardener hybrid training in Macon and DeWitt counties. Master Gardeners are volunteers who share unbiased, research-based information with their communities through community programs, answering public inquiries, maintaining demonstration gardens, and donating food from community gardens.
Hybrid training times and locations:
Decatur Public Library | Wednesdays | 5:30-8 p.m. | Sept. 10 – Nov. 26 | 130 N. Franklin St., Decatur
DeWitt County Extension Office | Tuesdays | 9 a.m.- noon | Sept. 9 – Nov. 25 | 1160 IL 54, Clinton
The fee for the hybrid training is $175, and fee waivers are available.
Master Gardener training covers a wide range of topics such as botany, soils, vegetables, fruits, flowers, trees and shrubs, grasses, landscaping, insects, and diseases. Once training is completed, Master Gardener volunteers are required to complete 40 hours as interns to become certified Master Gardener Volunteers. To remain certified, active Master Gardener Volunteers must complete 10 hours of continuing education and volunteer 20 hours in approved projects yearly. Volunteer opportunities vary by county.
