September 17, 2025 -The new feature horror film by Millikin University Assistant Professor of Film & Creative Media Eric Hector, “Trick and Treats,” will hold its world premiere at Decatur’s Lincoln Square Theater on September 20th.
Hector wrote and directed the film, and his company, Heroic Age Studios, produced it in association with Frightfull 5000 Films.
The locally-shot film includes performances by iconic Hollywood actors Malcolm McDowell (A Clockwork Orange, Star Trek: Generations, Halloween (2007)) and Academy Award-nominated Actor Gary Busey (The Buddy Holly Story, Point Break, Lethal Weapon).
A perfect start to the Halloween season, this frightening film will premiere at what is widely recognized as one of the most haunted theaters in Illinois.
Short Synopsis of “Trick and Treats”:
On Halloween, Ashley and her friends find themselves locked in a biker bar, facing torture and death. All is lost until Ashley hears the legendary jack-o-lantern “Trick” (Malcolm McDowell) whispering in her mind. Is he trying to help, or is he merely a product of Ashly’s panicked imagination? The trick is figuring it out before everybody dies.
Attend the preshow red-carpet photo event with a filmmaker meet and greet, as well as an exclusive Q&A Session with the filmmakers after the movie. The Movie will begin at 7pm with a Q&A at 8:45pm
Large parts of the movie were filmed on the soundstage at Mt. Zion’s Heroic Age Art Center. The Art Center was originally the Old Mt. Zion Grade School, where many residents of Mt. Zion attended class.
The film was also shot on locations across Decatur, Macon County, and the surrounding areas.
“Trick and Treats” is a dark horror film that includes R-rated content. The movie contains adult language, adult situations, violence, and depictions of self-harm.
