September 18, 2025 – God’s Shelter of Love, which operates the only emergency homeless shelters for women and children in Decatur, Ill., will be the beneficiary of Scott’s 19th Annual Charity Car Show, set for Sunday, Sept. 28 at Baum Chevrolet Buick in Clinton.

The event will be held on the dealership grounds, located at 810 W. Van Buren in Clinton, from 9 a.m. to 3:30 p.m.

Founded in 1991, God’s Shelter of Love creates a safe, supportive environment where families in crisis can find stability and a path forward. The organization operates two housing programs: an overnight emergency shelter known as The Careage House; and a 24-hour transitional shelter located at its main facility in Decatur.

In addition to a warm place to stay, guests have access to meals, laundry services, and vital support such as job search assistance, mental health referrals, parenting resources and housing placement. God’s Shelter of Love also runs Blessingdales, a local thrift store that helps fund shelter operations.

A committee of Baum employees selected the Decatur nonprofit to receive proceeds from this year’s car show, which will go directly toward helping women and children find safety, support and the resources they need to rebuild their lives.

“We’re incredibly grateful to be chosen as this year’s car show beneficiary,” said Dan Watkins, executive director of God’s Shelter of Love. “We want to be the bandaid for those in crisis by giving them a safe place to land while they work to get back on their feet. The funds raised will directly support that mission.”

Registration for the car show begins at 9 a.m., and an opening ceremony will be held at noon. Awards will be presented at 2:30 p.m. There are car and truck, Corvette, Jeep, miscellaneous and street rod classes.

Organizers expect another strong turnout for the car show, which brought out more than 250 vehicles during last year’s show.

“We are thankful for the showgoers who always give generously to the selected cause,” said Scott Baum, owner of Baum Chevrolet Buick and car show organizer. “The selection of God’s Shelter of Love aligns seamlessly with our ongoing commitment to supporting organizations that embody compassion and provide a foundation of care to those in need throughout our Central Illinois community.”

In addition to the show, fundraising activities include a raffle for a 2025 Denago EV Rover XXL Golf Cart or a bar table crafted from the front end of a 1965 Chevrolet Chevelle. Tickets are $10 for 1 or $100 for 11, and can be purchased in advance at Baum Chevrolet Buick and Baum Chrysler Jeep in Clinton, and Baum Motor Company in Farmer City, Ill.

Registration for the event is $15 per vehicle and there is no admission fee for spectators. Music will be provided by JD’s DJ Service and food on-site will include Olde Tyme Ice Cream, LJ’s Famous Diner and La Paloma Food Truck. A free shuttle to the DeWitt County C.H. Moore Museum’s Apple ‘n Pork Festival is provided for all attendees.

In the past, the show has fundraised for beneficiaries such as the Clinton Junior High and High School SkillsUSA Chapters, Central Illinois Alzheimer’s Association, Guardians of the Children, Clinton YMCA and the DeWitt County Friendship Center.
