The event is part of Child Passenger Safety Week, a national initiative led by the U.S. Department of Transportation’s National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA), which runs this year from September 21–27. The week is dedicated to raising awareness about proper child passenger safety.
Certified Child Passenger Safety Technicians will be on-site to assist parents and caregivers in selecting the appropriate car seat for their child’s age, weight, and height. Technicians will also demonstrate the correct installation and usage of the seats. No appointments are necessary, and services will be provided on a first-come, first-served basis.
According to NHTSA data, vehicle crashes remain a leading cause of death for children, and an estimated 46% of car seats are misused, often due to incorrect installation or the use of a seat not suited for the child’s size or age.
Attendees are encouraged to bring the child who will use the seat, the vehicle owner’s manual, and the car seat instruction manual, if available. The goal of the event is to ensure that every child is traveling in the safest possible way.
