Volunteers of All Ages Invited to Collect Native Seeds at Friends Creek Conservation Area

September 29, 2025 -The Macon County Conservation District is seeking volunteers of all ages to participate in a native seed collection event at Friends Creek Conservation Area on Saturday, October 4, from 9 a.m. to 11 a.m.

Participants will explore prairie habitats to gather seeds from native wildflowers. These seeds will be utilized in prairie restoration efforts aimed at enhancing plant diversity across other conservation sites. The activity involves light physical effort, including walking through tall grasses and harvesting seeds directly from plants.

Volunteers will be provided with all necessary supplies such as gloves and buckets. It is recommended that participants wear long sleeves, long pants, and durable footwear. No prior experience is required to take part.

Volunteers should assemble at the Group Camp Parking Lot located at 13734 Friends Creek Park Road, Cisco, IL.
