October 3, 2025 -The friendly competition is over, and the Airport Plaza Kroger has been crowned the winner of this year’s WSOY Food Drive Kroger Challenge. Each Kroger location in Decatur competed for a traveling trophy and the honor of being named “Kroger Champions” for the year.
The challenge was fueled by Kroger’s August Round Up Campaign, which gave customers the opportunity to round their purchases up to the nearest dollar at checkout, or add a direct donation of $1, $3, $5, or $10. Shoppers could also purchase $5 and $10 pre-packed food bags stocked with shelf-stable items for families in need.
Altogether, the campaign raised over $8000 across all Decatur Kroger stores to benefit the WSOY Community Food Drive on October 3rd. Over $6000 of those dollars were raised by the store in Airport Plaza.
In addition to the store competition, two employees were recognized for going above and beyond in encouraging customer participation. Kroger associate, Lisa Tokarz earned the top spot with $1,287 raised, while Kroger associate Tina Michell followed closely behind with $1,178. Both totals came directly from their efforts to invite customers to round up at the register.
With the win, Airport Plaza Kroger will hold the traveling trophy for the year, while every store and employee involved played a role in driving support for families across Macon County.
