Decatur Police Department announces enforcement results for Sustained Traffic Enforcement efforts for 2025

October 7, 2025 – The Decatur Police Department released the results of additional enforcement efforts conducted via the Federal Fiscal Year 2025 Sustained Traffic Enforcement Program (STEP). The STEP grant year ran from Oct. 1st, 2024, through Sept. 30th, 2025. 

Officers conducted 1103 traffic stops, issued 890 citations, and made 27 criminal arrests. Activity included: 

501 speeding citations 

26 occupant restraint citations 

43 electronic communication use citations 

3 driving under the influence arrests 

265 other citations 

52 suspended / revoked drivers 

The Decatur Police Department participated in this effort to save lives by focusing on the leading contributory causes of crashes: speeding, impaired driving, electronic device use, failure to yield and disobeying traffic control signals, as well as occupant restraint violations. 

The STEP campaign was funded by federal highway safety funds administered by the Illinois Department of Transportation.
