October 8, 2025 – Thinkwell Makerspace is hosting a unique Halloween experience with its inaugural “Haunted Beach Party” on Saturday, October 11, from 6–11 p.m. at The Hub, located at 120 N. Franklin St., Decatur. This first-of-its-kind immersive event and fundraiser combines tiki culture with haunted house elements for a night of interactive entertainment, handcrafted decor, and themed activities.
The event will feature maker-created installations such as a cardboard tiki bar, a 3D shark sculpture cut by laser, and glowing palm trees. Guests can explore custom photo ops, including a “Your Head Mounted on the Wall”, Jet Ski, and Fisherman’s Catch setups, as well as an erupting volcano that dispenses prizes.
Activities include:
- Maker-made games like USS Indianapolis Whack-a-Shark, Human Slot Machine, and Shrunken Head Putt-Putt
- A tattoo parlour offering temporary tattoos in a Sailor Jerry style
- Mystery clues hidden throughout the space for attendees to discover
Music for the evening includes Hawaiian vinyl records, a DJ, and a live ukulele band.
Food and drinks will follow the tropical-haunted theme with items like:
- Rum ham skewers with pineapple and shrunken apple heads
- Shrimp cocktail with blood orange sauce
- A themed “Sharkcuterie” board
- Tiki cocktails served in souvenir mugs
Attendees will also have chances to win door prizes and experience surprise features throughout the evening.
