December 1, 2025 – Interim Decatur City Manager Melissa Hon has announced the selection of Travis Schanaman as the next Director of Information Technology. Current IT Director Jim Edwards will retire at the end of the 2025 after 10+ years with the City.
“We are excited to welcome Travis to the City of Decatur to lead our IT Department,” said Hon. “IT is a critical component to running a modern city government and we look forward to his leadership. We also thank Jim Edwards for his years of service and for helping Travis hit the ground running this month before heading off to enjoy retirement.”
Travis will relocate from Las Vegas, Nevada, with a start date of December 1, 2025. He holds a Master’s Degree in management and leaves his current role as Director of Information Services with the U.S. Air Force (USAF) in Las Vegas. Travis has also held positions with the USAF as Deputy Director of Cyberspace Future Operations, and with the U.S. Army as Branch Chief of Data Processing. He was an enlisted member of the USAF from 2004 to 2011.
As part of the employment agreement, Travis will be required to establish residency within 50 miles of the corporate limits of the City of Decatur within 12 months of his appointment.
