February 2, 2026 -Three Illinois lawmakers are encouraging residents to help brighten Valentine’s Day for seniors living in long-term care facilities by participating in separate card drives across central Illinois.
State Senator Doris Turner (D–Springfield) is collecting Valentine’s Day cards for seniors in nursing homes and assisted living facilities throughout the 48th Senate District. Turner said the annual effort is meant to show appreciation for older adults and remind them they are valued members of the community. Children are encouraged to participate, and both handmade and store-bought cards are welcome. Cards for Senator Doris Turner’s drive may be mailed or delivered through February 11 to her Capitol office at 401 South Spring Street, Section F, Office B, or her Decatur office at 1210 South Jasper Street. Meanwhile, State Senator Sally Turner (R–Beason) is hosting a Valentines for Seniors Card Drive serving communities within her legislative district. The initiative invites individuals, families, classrooms, churches, and community groups to create Valentine’s cards for local seniors, including those in nursing homes and assisted living facilities. Cards for Senator Sally Turner’s drive must be dropped off or mailed by February 6 to either the Lincoln District Office at 120 South McLean Street, Suite E. A drop box is available inside the office during business hours, with an additional mailbox located outside for after-hours drop-offs. Participants are asked to include a name and contact email or address with their cards.
Rep. Regan Deering’s office is collecting cards starting January 20, through Monday, February 9. Cards may be dropped off or mailed to State Representative Regan Deering, 419 E. Ash Ave., Decatur, IL 62526. No appointment is necessary to drop off cards. Following the collection, Rep. Deering and her team will be delivering the cards to local seniors in the 88th District.
