January 27, 2026 – The City of Decatur is seeking feedback on what improvements and new additions the community would like to see in the Oakwood Business District. Residents can do this by completing a short survey: www.bit.ly/OakwoodDistrict.
The district is generally the area near Millikin University along Oakland Ave between W Main Street and W Wood Street. To help revitalize this key business district, the City is partnering with local developers, business owners, and Millikin University, among other partners, to bring new life to the district.
The City’s economic development team is exploring solutions related to parking, lighting, and neighborhood safety measures. Additionally, this survey is a critical component of the revitalization strategy. The City states that the more feedback they receive, the better positioned they are to recruit the right businesses and make informed investments that reflect the community’s needs and vision. The survey is open until January 31st.
The Oakwood Business District is one of several areas of focus in the City’s neighborhood revitalization strategy.
