February 16, 2026 – HSHS Home Care is hosting its annual “Cram the Car” food drive in recognition of National Canned Food Month to benefit local food pantries in Decatur.

The organization is partnering with HSHS St. Mary’s Hospital to collect nonperishable food items and monetary donations from community members.

Donations will be accepted on Thursday, Feb. 19, from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. at HSHS St. Mary’s Hospital. An HSHS Home Care vehicle will be parked outside the hospital’s main entrance. Donations will benefit Catholic Charities in Decatur.

“Cram the Car inspires me every year when I see how our neighbors, friends and colleagues come together to care for the community,” said Valerie Engelbart, Volunteer/Bereavement Services Supervisor for HSHS Home Care. “It’s a privilege to deliver their generous donations. Let’s see how many cars we can fill!”

Suggested donation items include boxed meals such as Hamburger Helper and Rice-A-Roni, pancake mix and syrup, jelly, pasta sauce, cereal, granola, sugar-free canned fruit, low-salt canned vegetables and large boxes of oatmeal. Donors are encouraged to check expiration dates before donating.
