February 18, 2026— Millikin University has partnered with the Heart of Illinois Community Foundation to offer donors an opportunity to expand their philanthropic impact while receiving a state tax benefit through the Illinois Gives Tax Credit program.
As the university approaches its 125th anniversary in 2026, officials are encouraging alumni and supporters to consider making gifts through a qualified charitable fund administered by the community foundation. Eligible Illinois taxpayers who participate in the Illinois Gives Tax Credit program may receive a 25% Illinois state income tax credit in addition to any applicable federal charitable deduction.
University leaders say the initiative allows donors to increase the value of their contributions while directly supporting institutional priorities.
“This partnership creates a powerful opportunity for our Illinois alumni and friends to invest in Millikin in a way that is both meaningful and financially advantageous,” said Rick Darnell, Vice President of University Advancement. “By leveraging the Illinois Gives Tax Credit, donors can amplify the impact of their generosity while helping advance the programs and experiences that define a Millikin education.”
Gifts made through the foundation can be directed toward student scholarships and financial aid, academic programs, faculty support, performance learning initiatives, or existing endowed funds.
The effort is connected to the university’s 125th anniversary theme, “Forever Blue,” and includes a goal of securing $1.25 million in gifts through community foundations during the anniversary year.
“This partnership with Millikin University reflects what the Illinois Gives program was designed to do, align generosity with long-term sustainability,” said Natalie Beck, Executive Director of the Heart of Illinois Community Foundation. “By building permanent endowment resources, we are not just supporting today’s needs, we are strengthening Millikin’s mission for generations to come.”
