March 5, 2025— The Decatur Public Library will host a free public screening of the PBS documentary Below the Belton Thursday, March 26 at 6pm.
The event will begin at 6 p.m. in the library’s Madden Auditorium. Organizers say the film highlights the experiences of four women searching for answers to unexplained medical symptoms and examines challenges within the healthcare system that can delay diagnosis and treatment.
The documentary focuses on Endometriosis, a condition that affects millions of women worldwide. According to information provided with the event, the disease can take years to diagnose and is often misunderstood or misdiagnosed.
The screening aims to raise awareness about the condition and encourage discussion about healthcare access, gender bias in medicine and the impact of delayed diagnoses. Organizers say the film also explores how patients and advocates are working to improve awareness and care.
Light refreshments will be served, and the event is free and open to the public.
