March 9, 2026 – A youth production of Matilda the Musical Jr. will take the stage March 20–22 at the Kirkland Fine Arts Center as part of the venue’s 2025–26 Artist Series.

The show, based on the novel Matilda by Roald Dahl, is co-produced by Millikin University and the Decatur Park District.

Performances are scheduled for Friday, March 20, at 7:30 p.m.; Saturday, March 21, at 2 p.m. and 7:30 p.m.; and Sunday, March 22, at 2 p.m.

The musical tells the story of Matilda, a gifted young girl whose intelligence and imagination help her overcome challenges at home and school. Along the way, she forms a bond with her supportive teacher, Miss Honey, while confronting the strict headmistress Miss Trunchbull.

“This production showcases the incredible talent of young performers in our community,” Diver said. “Matilda the Musical Jr. is a heartwarming and empowering story that reminds audiences of all ages about the power of courage, kindness and standing up for what’s right,” said Bryan Diver, director of Kirkland Fine Arts Center.

Tickets are $12 and are available through the Kirkland Fine Arts Center Ticket Office and online.
