March 16, 2026— Veterans Recognition of Central Illinois will host its annual Vietnam Veterans Recognition Day on Saturday, March 28, 2026, at the Decatur Civic Center, honoring those who served during the Vietnam War era from 1959 to 1975.
The event is free and open to the public, with organizers inviting veterans, their families, and community members to attend an afternoon focused on remembrance and connection. Doors will open at 12:00 p.m., with opening ceremonies scheduled to begin at 1:00 p.m.
The keynote address will be delivered by John S. Raschke, a former member of MACV Advisory Team 73 who served in the Mekong Delta from 1969 to 1970. Following the ceremony, attending veterans will gather for a group photograph.
Organizers say the event will also feature music from the Vietnam War era, food and non-alcoholic beverages, and several static displays. Representatives from veterans service organizations will be on hand to provide information about resources and services available to veterans and their families.
Veterans Recognition of Central Illinois hosts the event annually to acknowledge the service and sacrifice of those who served during the Vietnam War era and to provide an opportunity for the community to show appreciation.
Additional information about the event can be found on the organization’s website at VeteransRecognitionofCentralIllinois.org or on the Facebook page titled “Vietnam Era Veterans Recognition Day.”
