March 19, 2026 – United Way of Decatur & Mid Illinois will host its inaugural Power of the Purse event on Thursday, April 9, at the Mt. Zion Convention Center.
The event will benefit Dolly Parton’s Imagination Library and other Youth Opportunity initiatives serving children and families in the Decatur area.
Organizers say the evening will feature more than 100 purses available through auction, along with jewelry raffles, prize packages, cocktails and dinner. More than 200 community members are expected to attend.
Proceeds from the event will support programs focused on early childhood education, literacy, mentoring and family support services. United Way officials say funds raised will help ensure children are prepared for kindergarten, reach grade-level milestones and have access to books and enriching opportunities at home.
