April 26, 2026 -Volunteers are being invited to take part in a habitat restoration effort at a local conservation site.

The Macon County Conservation District will host a volunteer workday on Saturday, May 2, from 9 a.m. to noon at the Griswold Conservation Area.

Participants will assist in removing invasive bush honeysuckle, a fast-growing plant that can crowd out native vegetation and limit forest regeneration. Conservation officials say the species forms dense thickets that block sunlight and provide limited nutritional value for wildlife.

Organizers say removing the plant will help restore native habitats and improve biodiversity at the site. Gloves and tools will be provided, and volunteers must be 16 or older.

Those interested in participating are encouraged to contact Mitch Lovgren, Natural Resources Manager by emailing MLovgren@MaconCCD.org or by calling or texting 217-519-9926.
