May 3, 2026 – There are only a few weeks left for the public to take in the night sky during Public Observation Nights at Millikin University.
The free weekly events are held Tuesday evenings from 7:30 to 9:30 p.m. through May 19, weather permitting, at the university’s Requarth Observatory, located atop the Leighty-Tabor Science Center in Decatur.
The long-running program invites visitors of all ages to explore astronomy through hands-on experiences led by students and faculty. Guests can view planets, star clusters, nebulae, and more using the observatory’s 20-inch telescope, along with additional telescopes set up on the outdoor observation deck.
Organizers say each session offers a unique experience depending on weather and sky conditions, making every visit different.
Public Observation Nights are free and open to the community, with entry available through the southeast entrance of the Leighty-Tabor Science Center.
