May 4, 2026 -Join Cancer Care Specialists of Illinois, Decatur Memorial Hospital and HSHS St. Mary’s Hospital to celebrate National Cancer Survivors Day, an event to honor, encourage and gather with local cancer survivors, whether recently diagnosed or in remission.

Cancer survivors and a guest are invited to Fairview Park Pavilion on Saturday, May 30, from 1 to 3 p.m. for a free barbecue lunch and music from Pizzazz. This fun annual event has been taking place for 25 years and is offered free with no registration necessary.

“This has become a wonderful tradition for cancer survivors and their loved ones,” said Jill Andrews, a manager with medical imaging at Memorial Cancer Care in Decatur. “We love being a part of this gathering that focuses on reflection, connection and celebration.”

“A cancer diagnosis can change everything in an instant, bringing fear and so many unknowns,” said Valerie Jordan, manager of Oncology Services at HSHS St. Mary’s Hospital. “On National Cancer Survivors Day, we come together to honor the courage of those who have walked this journey, to stand beside those still in the fight and to remind every patient and family that hope is real, support is always here and brighter days are ahead.”

Throughout the event, physicians, healthcare professionals and volunteers will be available to support survivors and their caregivers.

“For those of us who care for cancer patients and their families, it’s incredibly rewarding to see them living fully and with joy,” said Shannon Nail, counselor with Cancer Care Specialists of Illinois. “We look forward to this celebration as a time to honor their journeys and the strength that connects us all.”
