May 12, 2026 – ThinkWell Makerspace Innovations NFP is inviting artists, crafters, writers, and makers to step away from daily distractions and reconnect with their creativity during a new three-day event in downtown Decatur.

The organization’s first-ever “Creative Escape” retreat will take place May 22 through May 24 at ThinkWell Makerspace on North Franklin Street.

Organizers describe the event as a relaxed, open studio experience designed for creatives of all skill levels who want uninterrupted time to work on personal projects.

“Most creative projects don’t fail because of lack of ideas,” a ThinkWell Makerspace representative said. “They stall because life gets busy. Creative Escape is about carving out dedicated time and surrounding yourself with creative energy so you can actually make progress.”

Unlike traditional workshops or structured craft classes, Creative Escape allows participants to reserve workspace for the weekend and work at their own pace. Attendees will be able to leave supplies set up, come and go throughout the event, and use makerspace resources including WiFi, power access, and Cricut Explore Air 2 machines.

Organizers say the event is geared toward papercrafters, artists, hobbyists, makers, and anyone looking for dedicated creative time in a collaborative environment.

The weekend will also feature rotating local vendors showcased in exclusive two-hour spotlight sessions designed to highlight creative businesses and makers throughout the community.

General admission will be free for visitors who want to tour the makerspace, meet creators, and view projects in progress.

Creative Escape will run from 9 a.m. to 9 p.m. Friday and Saturday, and from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. Sunday.

The event will be held at ThinkWell Makerspace at 120 North Franklin Street in downtown Decatur. Parking will be available nearby in the library parking lot and downtown parking garage.

More information and ticket details are available through Creative Escape Event Page or by contacting ThinkWell Makerspace directly.
