May 18, 2026 – The five-year anniversary of the death of Officer Chris Oberheim will be marked this June with a weekend of youth baseball, remembrance, and community events in Forsyth.
The Officer Chris Oberheim Baseball Memorial Tournament will be held June 5–7, bringing together 34 teams competing in 8U and 9U divisions. The tournament is hosted by Chris Oberheim’s niece, Kelsey Washburn, and her husband, Wyatt Washburn.
While centered on youth baseball, organizers say the event is intended to honor Officer Oberheim’s legacy, support surviving family members, and strengthen relationships between law enforcement and the community. Oberheim was killed in the line of duty in May 2021.
Throughout the weekend, attendees will also take part in memorial-focused activities, including a ceremony, first responder parade, Touch-a-Truck experience, and fundraising efforts benefiting the Illinois chapter of Concerns of Police Survivors (COPS), which supports families and colleagues of fallen officers.
Organizers say the event has grown since its first year, with increased participation from teams, sponsors, and community members.
Kelsey Washburn, the tournament organizer, said the event has become a meaningful way to keep Oberheim’s memory present, noting that the impact of his life continues to resonate beyond the game.
The community is invited to attend all tournament activities, with updates and event details available through the tournament’s Facebook page.
