May 28, 2026 -Decatur Mayor Julie Moore Wolfe has announced she will run for re-election in 2027. Moore Wolfe has been elected mayor three times and has served on the Decatur City Council since 2009.
In her announcement, Moore Wolfe cited strong partnerships as key to her success in economic development, workforce development, transportation initiatives, and quality of life in Decatur. “Together we work through challenges and build our own success story. We’ve brought home over $137-million dollars for roads, bridges, and transportation initiatives in the last ten years. That’s business, labor, the city and county working together as Team Decatur.”
Mayor Moore Wolfe says she’s proud of the work she’s done to help companies like Fuyao, which recently announced it will double the size of its plant and hire an additional 200 people. The Brush College Road overpass will open later this summer; an initiative Moore Wolfe has prioritized in her years as mayor.
Additionally, she points to initiatives such as Decatur Moves as having a dramatic effect on city residents. “Our new Decatur Moves vans are getting people to work, church, the doctor’s office and the grocery store. We are removing barriers to make lives better.”
Mayor Moore Wolfe lists her top priorities for the coming term as focusing on ways to reduce the property tax burden on residents, to enhance and grow the local workforce, and to increase middle income housing opportunities to attract new residents.
She was first elected to the city council in 2009 and then again in 2013. She was appointed Mayor in 2015, following the death of Mike “Tuna” McElroy. She is a Past President of the Illinois Municipal League and has served in leadership roles on numerous community boards.
