June 17, 2026 – St. Teresa High School has announced the hiring of Rodney Walker as the school’s new head boys basketball coach, bringing a former Bulldog standout and longtime Decatur basketball advocate back to his alma mater.

Walker succeeds Mike Noonan, who recently joined the basketball coaching staff at Millikin University.

A Decatur native and 1991 St. Teresa graduate, Walker enjoyed a successful collegiate and professional basketball career before returning home to coach and mentor local student-athletes. After graduating from St. Teresa, he attended Glen Oaks Community College in Michigan before transferring to New Mexico State University, where he led the team in scoring, earned First Team All-Big West honors, and helped guide the Aggies to the 1994 NCAA Tournament.

Following college, Walker spent a decade playing professional basketball overseas, competing in Taiwan, Australia, Malaysia, Finland, and Brazil.

After his professional career concluded, Walker returned to Decatur and earned a bachelor’s degree from Millikin University in 2007. He has remained active in the local basketball community and previously served as head boys basketball coach at Eisenhower High School for 10 years.

Walker said he is excited to return to the school where his basketball journey began. “I am super excited to return to my alma mater, St. Teresa High School, as the Head Boys Basketball Coach,” Walker said. “It’s a true blessing and honor to be back in Bulldog country. I started here and I will finish here. I cannot wait to get to work.”

St. Teresa Principal Matt Snyder said Walker’s experience and connection to the school make him an excellent fit for the program. “Coach Walker will bring enthusiasm and excitement to the St. Teresa basketball program,” Snyder said. “He knows what St. Teresa is and is a great hire for our school and the community.”

In addition to leading the Bulldogs on the court, Walker will join the St. Teresa faculty as a full-time physical education and weightlifting teacher.

School officials said they look forward to the leadership, experience, and energy Walker will bring to both the basketball program and the classroom
