June 17, 2026 – Area youth will have an opportunity to experience aviation firsthand when the Young Eagles program returns to Decatur Airport on Saturday, June 20, offering free flights for children ages 8 to 17.

Hosted by the local chapter of the Experimental Aircraft Association (EAA), the event is designed to introduce young people to the world of aviation through complimentary introductory flights with volunteer pilots.

Organizers say space is limited and flights will be weather dependent. Advance registration is required through the Young Eagles online sign-up system.

The Young Eagles program, launched by the EAA in 1992, has provided millions of young people across the country with their first flight experience. The initiative aims to inspire interest in aviation and aerospace careers while giving participants a unique opportunity to see their community from the air.

The June 20 event will take place at Decatur Airport and is open to youth ages 8 through 17. Parents and guardians can register participants online through the EAA Young Eagles website.
