July 21, 2026 – The City of Decatur has announced the hiring of Dr. ShamRA Robinson as its new Deputy City Manager.
Robinson, a Peoria native, joins the City of Decatur after serving as Director of Community Engagement and Public Relations for the Greater Peoria transportation district. She brings more than 22 years of experience in local government, with a background in community engagement, workforce development, transportation, and strategic planning.
Decatur City Manager Melissa Hon said Robinson’s experience and leadership skills made her stand out during the hiring process. “We are excited to fill an important leadership role by hiring ShamRA as Deputy City Manager,” Hon said. “Her experience stood out to us, and I am eager to watch the immediate impact she’ll have on the community. I am confident her unique vision and skillset will complement and enhance the momentum we have going in Decatur.”
Robinson has led initiatives focused on workforce, community, and economic development throughout her career. Her previous responsibilities have included managing a community-wide 311-style service system, overseeing aspects of public transportation including fixed-route operations and paratransit services, improving customer service, and leading strategic planning efforts.
Robinson earned a bachelor’s degree in business administration, a master’s degree, and a Ph.D. in organizational leadership and psychology from Columbia International University.
She said she is looking forward to building partnerships with city leaders, employees, and residents. “I am excited to bring my collaborative leadership style and community-centered perspective to Decatur,” Robinson said. “I look forward to partnering with city leaders, staff, and residents to advance the city’s continued progress.”
Robinson will begin her new role on Monday, July 27. Her annual salary will be $182,100.
