July 28, 2026 -Individuals interested in running for Mayor of Decatur or one of three Decatur City Council seats in the 2027 municipal election can now obtain nominating petitions.
Petitions are available at the City Clerk’s Office on the second floor of the Decatur Civic Center, #1 Gary K. Anderson Plaza, or online at www.decaturil.gov/161/City-Clerk.
Candidates must collect 45 signatures from registered voters to qualify for the ballot.
To be eligible, candidates must be United States citizens, registered voters, at least 18 years old, and have lived within the Decatur city limits for at least one year prior to the election.
Nominating petitions may be filed with the City Clerk’s Office beginning 8 a.m. Monday, Oct. 19, 2026, through 5 p.m. Monday, Oct. 26, 2026.
If needed, a Consolidated Primary Election will be held on Tuesday, Feb. 23, 2027, followed by the Consolidated Election on Tuesday, April 6, 2027.
City officials remind prospective candidates that the City Clerk’s Office cannot provide legal advice regarding the election process.
