Road closure begins Tuesday for 217 ALZ Wiffle Ball Classic

August 3, 2026 -The 217 ALZ Wiffle Ball Classic, an annual fundraiser dedicated to furthering research for Alzheimer’s disease and supporting local treatment programs, will return to a backyard off of Lost Bridge Road this week for its 11th year of operation.

The week-long backyard wiffle ball tournament is organized by Decatur residents, including a board of directors. Hundreds of fans from throughout Central Illinois and beyond flock to the Lewallen Place residence to see teams compete for the championship title, but the event’s overarching mission is to benefit those with Alzheimer’s and their families.

Event registration is closed, but spectators are welcome to attend and cheer on competing teams and enjoy food from onsite vendors. The tournament is held in the backyard of 2910 S. Lewallen Pl., which branches off Lost Bridge Road.

For the safety of tournament-goers, starting Tuesday, August 4, 2026, East Lost Bride Road, from East Fitzgerald Road to South Baltimore Avenue will be closed.  The closure will begin Tuesday, August 4, 2026, at 5:00pm and end Sunday, August 9, 2026, at 10:00pm.  The detour route will be as follows: West bound traffic South Baltimore Avenue to East Fitzgerald Road to East Lost Bridge Road and east bound traffic East Fitzgerald Road to South Baltimore Avenue to East Lost Bridge Road.
