August 4, 2026 – History and local flavor come together during Taste of History, a fundraising event celebrating Decatur’s rich heritage on Saturday, Sept. 12, from 5 to 8 p.m.
Guests will visit four historic sites while enjoying hors d’oeuvres and beverages at each stop. Each location highlights a pioneer who helped shape Decatur’s history and economy during the 1800s and beyond.
Featured sites include:
- Culver House, honoring John Culver, whose monument business and electric company became what is now Ameren Illinois.
- Governor Oglesby Mansion, celebrating Richard Oglesby, a Civil War veteran, U.S. senator and Illinois’ only three-term governor.
- James Millikin Homestead, recognizing the banker and founder of Millikin University.
- Staley Museum, highlighting A.E. Staley, whose corn processing business evolved into today’s Primient.
The event is open to adults 21 and older. Early bird tickets are $40 through Sept. 4 and increase to $45 afterward. Attendees can Park in Central Christian Church, hop on the Decatur Trolley, and let it take you to four of Decatur’s best historic homes—all in one night.
