August 16, 2026 – The James Millikin Homestead will celebrate its 150th anniversary with a community event Sunday, September 20, from 2 to 5 p.m.
The James Millikin Homestead Jubilee will include tours of the historic home, food vendors, live music and family activities.
The afternoon’s schedule includes strolling magic by Andrew’s Family Magic from 2 to 4 p.m., along with an old-fashioned cakewalk continuing until the available cakes are gone. The band Broken Brogue will perform from 2:30 to 4 p.m.
A tree planting and dedication ceremony is scheduled for 4:15 p.m., followed by a performance by the MTZ Drumline from 4:20 to 5 p.m.
The celebration marks 150 years of the James Millikin Homestead and recognizes the ongoing efforts to preserve the historic property and its connection to Decatur’s history.
The event also coincides with Arts in the Park at Central Park, which is scheduled earlier in the day. Organizers noted that the Homestead is located a short distance from Central Park, allowing visitors to attend both events.
The James Millikin Homestead Jubilee is open to the public. The event runs from 2 to 5 p.m. September 20.
