August 23, 2026 – The Decatur Area Arts Council is offering after-school art classes this fall for students in first through fifth grades.
The classes, led by artist Shannon Cook, will meet Tuesdays and Wednesdays from 3:30 to 5:30 p.m. Students can register for Tuesdays, Wednesdays, or both days, and families can choose which months they would like their children to attend.
The program will feature hands-on projects involving acting, sculpture, painting, drawing, building, art history and mixed media. Each session will also include movement and a snack.
September classes will focus on creative foundations, with projects involving drawing, painting, clay, collage and music-inspired activities. October will feature projects inspired by artists, stories, animals and the Halloween season. November classes will continue exploring drawing, painting, building and mixed-media techniques.
The DAAC says the program is designed to provide students with opportunities to experiment with different materials and artistic techniques while developing creativity and confidence.
Although the classes are designed as a continuing fall program, each month features new projects and can be attended independently.
