September 8, 2026 – Decatur Moves is marking its first anniversary after providing more than 170,000 passenger boardings during its first year of on-demand microtransit service in Decatur and Macon County.
The City of Decatur launched Decatur Moves on September 8, 2025, with an initial projection of about 100 rides per day. During its first year, the service recorded 170,210 completed passenger boardings and averaged nearly 500 boardings per day.
The service also received more than 221,000 ride requests during its first year, with 160,372 completed ride requests. Overall on-time performance was 96.37%, and the average trip was 5.43 miles.
More than 75% of bookings were made through the Decatur Moves mobile app, and the service recorded 6,078 recurring riders.
Decatur Moves operates seven days a week and provides shared, on-demand transportation throughout Macon County. Its Urban Zone includes Decatur, Forsyth and Mt. Zion, while the Rural Zone covers the remainder of the county.
The city says the high demand has also highlighted the need for additional capacity and longer operating hours. Decatur is pursuing federal funding and applying through the Illinois Department of Transportation’s Consolidated Vehicle Procurement Program for additional vehicles.
Additional funding and vehicles could allow the service to accommodate more riders, reduce wait times and eventually extend service hours until midnight.
The city also plans to conduct an updated Comprehensive Operations Analysis using data from Decatur Moves’ first full year. The analysis will examine how the microtransit service and the city’s fixed-route bus system are working together and identify potential future improvements.
