September 16, 2026 – Nelson Park and Chandler Park will be temporarily closed Sunday, October 4, for the 37th annual Shoreline Classic.
The full closure will be in effect from 7 to 10:30 a.m. as organizers and Decatur Park Police work to provide a safe course for runners, volunteers and spectators.
All entrances and exits to the affected park areas will be closed during the event. Closures will include Chandler Park at Lost Bridge and Lake Front Road, as well as Nelson Park at 22nd Avenue and Cantrell Street and at Powers Street and Nelson Street.
Race participants and volunteers are required to be parked by 7 a.m.
Organizers say the Shoreline Classic’s 15K course has been officially certified for the next 10 years. They say the certification will allow the race to pursue growth and work toward regaining its former prominence in the community.
Officials say full park closures are expected to continue during future Shoreline Classic events as the race grows.
