October 14, 2026 – Illinoisans shopping for health insurance through the Get Covered Illinois Marketplace will see an average statewide rate increase of 14.1 percent for 2027.
The Illinois Department of Insurance says that increase is down from 28.8 percent last year. Five insurance companies will offer plans through the marketplace.
However, the rate increase does not necessarily reflect what consumers will pay. Final premiums depend on the plan selected and any financial assistance available.
The department says the loss of enhanced federal premium tax credits could make coverage more expensive for many consumers. In 2026, more than 466-thousand Illinoisans enrolled in marketplace plans, and about 85 percent received premium tax credits.
Consumers can preview 2027 plans and costs beginning October 19th. Open enrollment runs November 1st through January 15th.
