October 26, 2026 – Macon County officials marked the completion of the Reas Bridge project Monday with a ribbon-cutting ceremony, celebrating the replacement of two bridges spanning Lake Decatur on the northeast side of the city.

The approximately $33 million project replaces the aging bridge structures along Reas Bridge Road, which had been identified as structurally deficient. Construction began in late 2023 and took nearly three years to complete.

According to the Macon County Highway Department, the new bridge is expected to improve school bus safety, support regional commerce and maintain an important transportation connection for the future.

The project received financial support from state and federal partners, including the Illinois Department of Transportation, U.S. Senator Dick Durbin, former Congressman Rodney Davis and Congresswoman Nikki Budzinski. The City of Decatur recognized those partners in celebrating the project’s completion.

The ribbon cutting marks another major infrastructure project completed in the Decatur area in recent months, following the opening of the Brush College Road and Faries Parkway overpass in September.
