June 19, 2023 – The Governor Richard J. Oglesby Mansion will be open for the public to tour from 2-4 p.m. one Sunday per month through November, beginning Sunday, June 25.

The mansion, located at 421 W. William St., was built in the 1870s by a famous Chicago architect, William LeBaron Jenney, who was credited with designing the first modern skyscraper. The home was purchased by the Macon County Conservation District in the 1970s, and restoration of the roof and other areas commenced. Several of the house’s original features remain, including oak and walnut flooring.

Visitors will be led on tours by community volunteers, and a $2 donation is requested during open house sessions. For more information about the mansion’s history and other upcoming events, click HERE.
