August 28, 2023 – The Jasper Street Summer Fest will be held on Tuesday, August 29. The Jasper Street Summer Fest was originally scheduled for Thursday, August 24th, but was rescheduled due to last week’s hot weather.
The event will take place at Johns Hill Park, giving the neighborhood’s residents a chance to provide feedback on drafted plans to improve the corridor while enjoying an evening of family fun.
Last fall, the City of Decatur partnered with various consulting agencies from across the state to begin developing plans to improve the Jasper Street Corridor. The first edition of the festival, held last October, gave neighbors an opportunity to share the ways the City could assist in making the area safer, more beautiful and better for families. The project’s Steering Committee met monthly through the rest of 2022 and into 2023 and is now hosting the second festival to hear feedback on their proposed solutions while bringing the community together for food, music and more.
The Summer Fest, held from 4-6 p.m. in Johns Hill Park, will feature a bike rodeo, bounce houses, face painting, music from DJ TAT and food from several food trucks. Committee members will be on-site to share details of potential revitalization efforts, including adding a multi-use trail for pedestrians, cyclists and persons with disabilities, creating a central plaza for gathering events and repairing dilapidated homes throughout the neighborhood.
Residents of all ages are invited to attend the free event. For more information about the festival and Jasper Street Corridor, including revitalization progress, visit the program’s website HERE.
