September 28, 2023- God’s Shelter of love will be hosting its second-annual Blue Jean Ball on Thursday, October 12th, in an effort to raise funds to support the organization’s mission of “providing help and hope to women and children in crisis in Decatur and Macon County.”

The event will feature food from the Good Samaritan Inn, a mechanical bull, live and silent auction items, music, and line dancing.

Auction items include a condo rental in Naples, FL, 2 sets of 4 dugout seats to a Cardinals game, and a two-night stay at The White Tail Cabins at Lake Shelbyville.

“We wanted to add something new this year,” Executive Director Dan Watkins said. “In addition to great food and dancing, we have added a mechanical bull for all to try their luck at riding. There is also unique auction items, plus amazing decor from our staff and volunteers really make it an event you won’t want to miss.”

God’s Shelter of Love operates the largest shelter system for women and children, and runs Blessingdale’s Thrift Store to support its services. It connects women with local resources to find jobs and housing, and gives children a safe place to do schoolwork, play, and get a good night’s sleep.

“Last year we provided over 5,000 safe nights of sleep for women and children,” Watkins said. “Without us, many would be subjected to a night on the street in unsafe and unsanitary conditions.”

While tickets are not required, attendees must RSVP.
