August 28, 2024 – The Decatur Police Department welcomed five new patrol officers at a swearing-in ceremony on Wednesday, as well as two lateral transfers that have already started working officially for the DPD.
New officers include Tyler Byers, a Richland and Millikin graduate who has been working at Growing Strong, Michael Ellis, a former personal trainer and ADM corporate security, Nash Mose, a recent Millikin graduate, Eric Taylor, a former ADM supervisor, and Ashley Warner, a graduate of UIS and correctional officer at the Macon County Correctional Facility.
The Decatur Police also welcomed two lateral hires from other law enforcement agencies. They include Corbin Winans from Shelby County and Lukasz Maslanka from Logan County. Maslanka is also originally from Poland and a member of the US National Guard. Both participated in the swearing-in ceremony and started with the Decatur PD on July 30.
The new officers will spend the rest of the week onboarding and will leave for the academy on Sunday, where they will spend 16 weeks in training. Once they graduate, they will begin working at the Decatur Police for 3 weeks of in-service training before months of in-field training.
