September 23, 2024 – The Northeast Community Fund was recently honored by the Illinois Commission on Volunteerism and Community Service (ICVCS).

The ICVCS presented the Governor’s Certificate of Appreciation to Northeast Community Fund (NECF) and the City of Decatur for the Small Home Improvement Program (SHIP). This is one of the highest honors from the Governor/State of Illinois to acknowledge outstanding contributions to the people of the State of Illinois.

The SHIP program is run by NECF and helps homeowners with small home repairs, such as exterior painting, windows, roofs, porches, etc. It was launched in September 2022 with American Rescue Plan Act (ARPA) funding provided by the City of Decatur. SHIP was a very successful program; NECF received over 800 applications. So far, NECF has assisted 42 households with home repairs, improving the quality of life for many Decatur citizens.
