May 4, 2021 – Today was the InspirED Futures Internship Luncheon to recognize DPS students enrolled in the program. This will be the sixth year of the program, which started as a pilot program in 2015. Since its inception, more than 200 DPS students have completed the program.

As part of the program, students intern with local businesses to focus on real-life application and hands-on learning with over fifty participating business partners in and around Macon County.

Julia Roundtree-Livingston, Executive Director for Macon County CASA was the keynote speaker and she echoed the sentiments on the importance of experience in the working world.

“You have to figure out what you like and what you don’t like, what you’re good at, what seems fulfilling for you, what you could do for a long time, what will give you a good work-life balance, and what you can be proud of. I think the InspirED internship and other experiences will give you that understanding of what you what and what you don’t want for your future,” said Roundtree-Livingston.

“Don’t fight it, embrace that experience. Don’t ever feel like you’ve wasted your time because each of those experiences are opportunities you can pull from for all of your other opportunities.”

Three students in the program gave presentations on their experiences including MacArthur student Ian Stobaugh and Eisenhower students Fanny Toledo and Essence Richardson.

Below is an interview with Ian Stobaugh, who interned at Johns Hill in their English Second Language Program.
