January 22, 2026 – Pending official vote, the Decatur City Council will name Melissa Hon as the next City Manager.

Hon has served as Interim City Manager since November 1, 2025 after the departure of Tim Gleason. She first came to the City of Decatur when hired as Deputy City Manager in February 2025. Before Decatur, Hon was Director of the Department of Community Impact & Enhancement for the City of Bloomington, IL and has worked in various local government roles for 25 years.

She holds a Master of Business Administration from the University of Phoenix and a Bachelor of Science from Bradley University.

“We are excited to remove the interim tag and name Melissa as the permanent City Manager of Decatur,” said Decatur Mayor Julie Moore Wolfe. ‘Through her short but meaningful time leading the City, it became clear that she was the right person for the job. Melissa cares greatly for Decatur and her vision and goals for the community align perfectly with what the City Council is seeking.”

Hon’s salary will be $225,000 annually. She lives in Decatur and will be required to maintain residency throughout her tenure.

An official vote on Hon’s employment contract is planned for the February 2, 2026 Decatur City Council meeting. Full details of the employment contract will be included in the City Council packet. If approved, she will immediately have the interim title removed and begin as permanent City Manager.
