African American Cultural & Genealogical Society of IL hosting 27th Annual Juneteenth Celebration

June 9, 2021 – The African American Cultural & Genealogical Society of IL will host its 27th Annual Juneteenth Celebration on Saturday, June 19, 2021.

The event will kick off with a special wreath ceremony at 10:30 am at the Macon County Courthouse Building in remembrance of the unfortunate 1893 lynching of Mr. Samuel J. Bush.

Immediately following the wreath ceremony will be the community “Freedom Day Walk” from the Macon County Courthouse to Central Park where the Juneteenth celebration, food, festivities will begin (12:00 noon to 4:00 pm).

This year’s event will feature entertainment, festivities, food, education, giveaways, community assistance, and more for the enjoyment of the general public. The special guest will be Chicago’s Aryie King III, who’s better known as “Mr. Taps” for his charming, high-energy tap dance performances that blend the modern moves of Savion Glover to Fred Astaire.

FEMA will also be present to assist those who have been economically impacted by the COVID-pandemic.
