May 27, 2026 -Decatur crash survivor Amber Hooker will publicly release her new inspirational book, “Impact: From Crash to Coma to Comeback,” during a special event Saturday at Millikin University.

The public event will take place from 3 p.m. to 5 p.m. at the Millikin University Commons Building in Decatur.

Hooker, formerly Amber Johnson, became widely known throughout Central Illinois following a 2022 street racing crash near St. Teresa High School that left her with life-threatening injuries. Authorities said she was struck by a vehicle traveling more than 100 miles per hour and suffered brain injuries, multiple fractures, and spent weeks in a coma.

In the months following the crash, community members organized support efforts known as “Amber’s Army” as she underwent surgeries and rehabilitation.

According to organizers, Hooker’s new book details her physical, emotional, and spiritual recovery journey following the crash and focuses on themes of resilience, faith, and perseverance.

The event will include a public book signing, guest speakers involved in Hooker’s recovery, and firsthand accounts from witnesses who remained with her following the crash until emergency responders arrived.

Organizers say the event is intended to celebrate recovery, community support, and second chances.

Hooker is now married, a mother, motivational speaker, and author.

The event is open to the public.
